Quebec requires a licence to build a home and a guarantee plan to protect the buyer. OBQ holds both, and here is what each one actually does for you.

Roof, windows, siding, floors, kitchen, vanities: it all comes through OBQ under the one contract, so what is left for you is making the choices rather than chasing suppliers and coordinating trades.

How it works

What happens between your first call and your keys

Every build runs through the same four stages. Here is what happens at each one, and where we need a decision from you.

Site visit and estimate

We come and look at your lot, talk through what you want to build, and put a written estimate in your hands. It lists what is included and what is not, at no cost and with no obligation.

Plans, permits and a schedule

The plans get finalized and the permit applications go in. You get a dated schedule that shows when we start on site and the points where a decision is needed from you.

Excavation and foundation

We prepare the lot and pour the foundation. This is the stage where a build most often stalls waiting on another company. Here it is the same crew that carries on into the framing.

04

Build, inspection and handover

We take the house through to completion, walk it with you, hand over the documents and make sure your GCR Guarantee coverage is registered on the home.

OBQ is deliberately small. These are the people who will be on your site and on the other end of the phone, so there is no layer between you and the work.

The questions we are asked before a build

If yours is not here, ask it in the form at the bottom of the page. We would rather answer it now than after you have signed anything.

Yes. OBQ Construction holds RBQ licence 5844-6337-01. The RBQ is the provincial body that regulates who may build residential, and the licence number can be checked in its public register before you talk to us.

It is Quebec's residential construction guarantee plan for new homes. It exists to protect the buyer, so that if something goes wrong with your house, you have recourse that does not depend on the builder still answering the phone.

We do it ourselves. On a full build the excavation is part of the same contract as the house, so you are not coordinating two companies during the first month of your project.

We work in Quebec. Send us your municipality when you get in touch and we will tell you straight away whether we can take the project on, rather than leaving you to guess.

It depends on your plans, your lot and what is underneath it. We start with a site visit and give you a written estimate that separates what is included from what is not, so you can compare it fairly with other quotes.

It depends on the size, the design and what the site turns up. What we can commit to is a dated schedule before we start, and a phone call when something changes rather than a surprise later.
